THE SECRET IS REVEALED

so my dear fine author of argsome adventures, I will currently proceed to answer your very very GREAT question. I am about to unveil the secret location...

MOUNT MERAPI! AHHAHAHA! I tricked you guys! The secret isn't the location silly. The secret is... too amazingly obvious to be hinted at right now. I'll tell you people about it later... and when I mean later, I mean the bottom of this blog entry. But I know what your thinking, I would think it too... YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SCROLL DIRECTLY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE POST JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO KNOW THE SPECTACULAR SURPRISE. If you are a bummmm in the attic then you will scroll down. ARE YOU A BUM? I hope not. So just read the whole entry because eventually you will learn the amazing surpries :)

So less about the amazingness and let's get down to the FACTS.

cute hats right? that's definitley going to be my souvenir from Indonesia!
Mount Merapi is located in INDONESIA! That's a pretty BOMB DIGGITY (that was for you mika >.<) place right there!
The mountain is actually... AN ACTIVE VOLCANO! It is on a convergent boundary, formed because of subduction of the Indo-Australian plate and the Eurasian plate.

So how does convergent subduction work? Well for starters, let's get a nice animation going. Once again, click on the picture below...
http://geology.com/nsta/convergent-boundary-oceanic-continental.gif
Now there are different kinds of subduction... the one that I'm talking about now and then the other one. The other one is because of two oceanic plates that come together and one goes beneath the other and a volcano forms and since its under water you get an island like Hawaii. I think. Wow, that was sorta a  run on sentence. Anyways the one I'm talking about occurs when and oceanic and continental plate go towards each other. As I explained in what I believe was my second blog post about the Himalayas (I hope I'm right...), continental plates are less dense than oceanic, so the oceanic plate would be forced down. So, as I just said, the oceanic plate is forced down, and going down REAAAAALLLLY deep means that it goes into a high temperature environment. Well that reallllly hot temperature is so crazy hot that the oceanic plate starts MELTING. insanity right? The magma makes its way to the surface, and when it reaches cooler temperatures, it cools. That's what forms the volcano. IIFFF the magma rises to the surface but does not solidify, it will break through and be referred to as an eruption.

Mount Merapi is an active volcano, so it still erupts every now and then. so I'm searching.... OI. Yah a lot of dates so I'll just put up the link of the nice list of dates. *slow whistle*... no wonder... anyways here's the link: http://indahnesia.com/indonesia/MERHIS/a_history_of_eruptions.php

if you scroll down on this link, you can read about some facts about Mount Merapi, including the eruption in 2006 and 2010: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Merapi

OOOH boy! so much INFORMATION about the volcanoes. Now I was wondering about if eruptions could cause earthquakes or the other way around... My theory was that if a ton of pressure builds up in the mountain (like Mt. St. Helen) and then it finally blows its top... would it be a great enough tremor to call it an earthquake? Or would all the magma turn to smoke because it was so hot in the volcano and the whole Pompei  and its demise episode all over again. I may be wrong though because it's more of a guess so... I looked it up and found this site... http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/about/faq/faqerupt.php

I'm still not certain and am eager to find out so please comment if you do know anything about the relationship between volcano eruptions and earthquakes!

I am so depressed right now. :'( above is a picture of the devastation from Mount Merapi erupting. People homeless, people dead, homeland destroyed... I'm no longer in the mood to share my secret. But whatever, you guys waited to hear it so here it comes. The person who died at Mount Merapi that I am visiting today... was me. Remember that whole grilled cheese eruption mess? Yeah, I was at Mount Merapi...

This is my final post so I will be heading back to Angel Academy after this is done. I hope that you enjoyed following me along my Tectonic Travels!

Right now, I think we should spend a moment of our time to wish that all the people that were apart of the Mount Merapi eruptions good luck wherever they may be, alive or dead. Also send your thoughts to the people in Japan. I didn't visit there, but I'm sure you've heard what happened. I hope that things brighten up there and the people no longer have to suffer. I'm proud to say I went to Lakeside and that they took the time to make 1,000 cranes, $2 per crane, and send the money to help Japan. <3

thank you.

FINAL DESTINATION! AHHHHHH!

OOO BOYYYY! My journey is almost over which is sad... BUT, I'M SO CLOSE TO GETTING MY HALO! ahhhhh this is soooo exciting! OKAY so I don't wanna spoil anything but our last stop has a special "twist"/"surprise". I won't tell you where I am headed to next because it is an amazing secret. I'll blog you guys when I get there!

building up the suspense... :)

The Red Sea

LAND AHOY! haha inside joke... first off, it's land ho. second, I see the sea! haha see the sea... gollie I crack myself up. Anyways... SEA HO!

The Red Sea is located between the continents Africa and Asia. It is on a divergent boundary, meaning the plates are shifting apart. And when I say plates, I am referring to the African and the Arabian plate.
click on the picture to see the animation!
Read the caption if you don't understand why i put a boring picture up... :)

So I'm sure you guys are probably wanting more than a picture to tell you what's going on with the Red Sea. Wellll... IT'S EXPLANATION TIME! So everybody should be PUMPED! WOOOO! hehe I just thought of an amazing soccer cheer from about 5 years ago... PUMP PUMP PUMP IT UP. P-U-M-P PUMP IT UP. KEEP KEEP KEEP IT UP. KEEP THAT _____ SPIRIT UP! I think we should fill that blank with "Red Sea". perfect.

So back on track (I don't get side-tracked easily... what are you talking about???). The continental plate is arched upwards from the current, pulled by extensional forces, and split into a rift-shaped structure. Earthquakes occur because of the faults and the movement of the two plates pulling apart. When the rift is newly forming, other bodies of water (like streams and rivers) flow into the sinking rift valley, forming a long lake sorta like a line. The rift sometimes eventually becomes deep enough that it is below sea water, so the ocean water can also flow in. Then you end up with a deep rift filled with water... which is Red Sea.

AHHHH! Cuuuuuuute fishies! I looked up Red Sea close up, and booooooy they must have a lot of wildlife because I got some pictures of turtles, fish, and stuff that just look so bizarre!

obviously there are no volcanoes here because as I've explained many times before, those accursed things that just burned me to a crispy piece of burnt crisp show up onlyyy from convergent plate boundary subduction. And the Red Sea is formed at... DIVERGENT BOUNDARIES!

As I mentioned before, earthquakes occur because of the movement of the plates shifting apart. How often do you ask? Let us see if I can find a nice chart like a did last time at the Alpine Fault! hmmm... tick tock tick tock...

Magnitude: 4.3
Region: Red Sea
Date/Time: 2/21/11 at 1:27
Depth: 2 km

wow. I dare say, that was quite recent! Maybe I shouldn't stick around here for too long... Let's check out how often these things occur...

http://www.idosi.org/rjes/rjes2%281%2920/2.pdf
OOOOK. I think I should get outta here for now.. I don't need souvenir's thaaaat badly... JEEESH that's a lot of earthquakes. And if ANYBODY CARES, I picked up a lovely wicker sculpture of a kiwi bird! BTW in my previous awesome life I had a bunch of nick names... including kiwi. Still don't know how that came to be but whateverrr I responded to it so it worked.

Now what you've all been waiting for.... *trumpet*... Who died here??? Well, because you waited oh so politely, I shall tell you.

poor man... diving accident. I'll post the article.

http://www.scuba-forum.com/forums/bsac_diver_death/bsac_diver_death.html
I'm now all depressed! poor scuba diverrrr... I hope you climbed your way to the tippity top of heaven!

Well I'm signing off now, and I'll post about our next stop later tomorrow. Right now I'm mourning for the diver... never realized how depressing being an angel could be...

bye bye for now my fellow bloggers. hope you enjoyed this post :)

To the Red Sea!

red sea
Next stop is the Red Sea! I'm excited because this particular part has an AWESOME look to it. Seriously just look at these pictures. They are so alike!

Anyways I'll blog again when I get there. Right now, I need to find a nice souvenir from the Alpine Fault!

New Zealand, the Alpine Fault

I am at the south island of New Zealand! More exactly, the Alpine Fault. The Alpine Fault is a transform boundary between the Pacific Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate.
http://www.gweaver.net/techhigh/projects/period1_2/Yellowstone/Images/transform.jpeg
The movement of the two plates results and a LOT of earthquakes. There are no volcanoes because those are created from convergent plate boundary subduction. The Alpine Fault also created the South Alps.  Below is a close up of the Alpine Fault. >.<

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquakes_in_New_Zealand
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ above is a log of the more major earthquakes! dannnnnnng that's a lot.

ahhhh so enough about all this explanation of the fault line. Now it's time to explain the real reason I'm here! O GOSH! I did a little research with my portable angel laptop (has amazzzzing wifi!), I discovered that I can't ever find some exact names. the 7.1 magnitude earthquake near Christchurch (remember that info comes from all sources so it's a bit different from the picture above) had a shocking death toll of 147 and still some people are missing or injured. I hope the unfortunate souls made it to heaven...

waaaaah this whole flying around and learning about people dying business is really harshing my mellow. HAHAHAHAHAHA ain't that wonderful? YOU. ARE. HARSHING. MY. MOOD. That's pretty fantastical! Anywayyys I am exhausssted. I think I shall go napeth on that cloud. That reminds me... I haven't gone to check out any sheep yet! booo I was really looking forward to meet those little critters. You know what? PSSSSSSSSHHHHHHT with the napping! I'm off to count sheep! ahah as I mentioned in the blog post before this one, counting sheep helps people fall asleep (it sorta rhymes!). Weeeeellll the silly thing is, I'm blowing off sleepy time to count sheep! I guess you could call that ironic.

so time to sign off :)

eeeep my laptop is malfunctioning! stupid blue highlighter...

New Zealand is suppppper interesting and I'm excited to fly to the next location! (The Red Sea!) ttyl kiddies <3

next stop, New Zealand!

Next place I'm going to visit is New Zealand! I'll explain the details later. First, I think I'll go to a hotel in China because I am exhausted!
http://www.siamhotel.net/bangkok/images/chinatownhotels.jpg
Now ain't that just delightful? I know I'm going to sleep well tonight! But first, I SENSE AN EARTHQUAKE. RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE. just kidding. I am just really hungry. HMMMMMMMMM.... what would I want... Well I adorrre dim sum so i guess... I SHALL EATITH DIM SUM.

http://harinair.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/dim_sum_photo.jpg?w=645

Now tell me that doesn't look scrumdidliumtious. If you did, then I will send the all mighty Hermes to punish you. Because lying is just wrong. and THAT'S RIGHT. I personally know the giant killer. Yahhhh we are really tight. CHECK IT! we even have matching T's!

http://shirtoid.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/chillin-with-my-gnomies.jpg

So it's been a looooong day. One location down, three more to go! Poor Swedish climber... I hope he was able to climb his way to heaven. You know, now that I think about it... I might've seen that guy around the Acadamy! weirdd.... small world.

Again, if anyone bothers to listen about my life before I died, I was pretty good at collecting things. Seriously, I had cows galoooore. I just hope they haven't been sold off... So as an Angel, I have a power of disguising myself so I look human (but not the way I was before or some people would get suspicious of a dead person coming back...
and this was me a couple years before the cheesy messs

So occasionally people are a little suspicious of a small child wandering the streets on her own...
this is the form I take up now. Aren't I just a doll?!?
As I was saying, I collect souvenirs now. I have a collection from all over the world because I can travel ppreeeettttty fast. Well, when I'm in my angel form. (the little kid form gives me really small legs so...) I fly around through the clouds; quite calming as a matter of fact. So in India when I was in the Himalayas lecturing the people that read this blog, I picked up a little something for my trove. drumroll please!!!!!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2115/2251823326_68f0e6f7cd.jpg
Aren't they adorable! It was pretty tough deciding if I wanted some bangles or these cute figurines. But near the end, I saw a little booth where people signed up for elephant rides. And guess what? That mean man wouldn't let me ride. But I was in my human form and it was probably just for the form's safety... So I may never ride an elephant in my after life EVER. Hmmm.... Maybe that'll be the start of my after life bucket list! Hopefully an elephant won't kill me like the volcano did... So that was the souvenir I got an India. And because I am an amazing multi-tasker, I was blogging while shopping for a souvenir in China! I'm wearing it right now because it is so brilliantly amazing and represents China so well! I put it on the necklace myself :).

Well I have accomplished A LOT today. It's time to retire to the hotel, finally. Good night! Wish me sweet dreams of counting sheep! >.< baaaa

get it? because New Zealand has TONS of sheep. No joke. they actually just have a ridiculous amount of sheep.
<3 night night <3

The Himalayas!

If anybody cares about my pallet, I stopped for some curry on my way over to the mountain range. My tongue did not agree with the food! Even in heaven I still favor Chinese food… Hey! Someone remind me to stop by their to grab some real grub!

So I'm soaring over the Himalayas right now! Puffy white clouds make the most comfortable cushions for an angel. If I were still human though, I would go right through!

http://i.pbase.com/u40/mreichel/upload/20419888.HimalayanSunsetDHU.jpg
Alas, if I were still alive, I would be shivering like a wet cat! So first off, the person who died was a Swedish climber (gotta love the Swedes!) on an expedition. His name was Fredrik Ericsson, and he fell, due to some nasty weather. Poor man, he never had a chance against the great mountains. The Himalayas are extremely tall, so that will serve as a nice transition to my next point of how they were created. If you ever cared to know a little about my history, I was learning about tectonic boundaries before the… grilled cheese mess. A shame that I didn’t even get to eat the sandwich… I might be able to say that I was… FUMING that I didn’t get any! Get it? Cause volcanoes fume?
Anyways, I was studying tectonic boundaries and how they affect our planet. The Himalayas are located through India, Nepal, and Pakistan.
The Himalayas are a result of the Indian and Eurasian plate colliding and forcing each other up, creating the mountains. Basically, India started moving towards Asia REALLY fast (for a continent), and when they collided… TAAADAA! The two continental plates met and made mountains! From my understanding, the two plates hit and went up because they were the same density, and less dense than the core of the earth. And before when I mentioned colliding, the funny thing is is that the process is called COLLISION!

Now the reason why my lovely murderers (volcanoes) are not located where the Himalayas are is because volcanoes form with an ocean plate and a continental plate. Here, there are two continental plates, so a mountain formed instead of a flaming beast.
My understanding of why high plateaus appear between mountain ranges is because the glaciers on the mountains erode the land into a flat plateau.
The Indian plate is still moving towards the Eurasian plate, and there is an estimation that the Indian plate is pushing the Asian plate two cm per year to the north. The collision in building up pressure continuously, and it does release it the pressure every now and then, which is what we know as earthquakes. The most recent earthquake was on January 26, 2001 in Bhuj.

Mountains are quite interesting, wouldn’t you agree? Next stop, we are headed towards some islands!
